SHRUM -- Gene, 75, passed away September 23, 2009. He was born in Des Moines, IA on August 22, 1934. His mother's uncle Fred Shrum raised Gene from the age of two in Hutchinson, KS., after his father's death. He joined the US Air Force and served his country in France and later worked for the US Government in Texas, Virginia and California before retiring in 1989 to Albuquerque, NM where he joined the New Mexico Golf Association. He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred Smith and Bernice E. Lewis; and adopted parents Fred Shrum and Edith Walters. He is survived by children; Richard Gene Shrum of El Paso, TX, Sharon Carrol of Alta Loma, CA, Cassandra Shrum of Albuquerque, NM, Mitchell Shrum of Santa Fe, NM, and Curtis Shrum of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; grandchildren; Thomas Shrum of Albuquerque, NM, Ashley Durmisevich of Alta Loma, CA, Kelly Carroll of Alta Loma, CA, James Carroll of Alta Loma, CA, Keelyn Shrum of Eureka, CA, Dani Shrum of El Paso, TX, Carye Shrum of El Paso, TX, Quint Cantrell of AZ, Quee Williams of El Paso, TX and Tyler Harris of CA; six great-grandchildren, other family and friends who loved and will miss him.
