MCDONOUGH -- Richard E. "Mac" McDonough, Major (Retired) age 76, a resident of Rio Rancho and Albuquerque since 1973, passed away Monday, June 1, 2009 from complications due to ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). He is survived by his partner Wilma Hodges of Rio Rancho; daughter, Kim McDonough-DeFilippis, son-in-law, Marco DeFilippis; grandchildren, Dania and Dante DeFilippis all of Albuquerque; sister, Jean Robertson of California; sister, Doris Duenow of Minnesota; sister, Irene Hersom of Minnesota; sister, Dorothy Bonato of California; brother, Don McDonough of California; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Mr. McDonough was preceded in death by his wife Joan McDonough. Mac was born in Severn Township, ND to Frank and Mina McDonough. He grew up in Detroit Lakes, MN and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School and subsequently enlisted in the U. S. Air Force. He served 20 years in the Air Force, most of which was spent as a navigator on B-52 airplanes and as a part of Strategic Air Command. He served during the Vietnam war and retired with the rank of Major. Mac enjoyed astronomy, loved jazz and classical music, was a shrewd card player, and adored spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid dancer and spent many days each week dancing with Wilma. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2009, 3:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW.
