BRITO -- Margaret Otero Brito died peacefully May 26, 2009. She was born September 4, 1921 in San Fidel, NM to Cleotilde and Tranquilino Otero. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Efren Brito, her parents, siblings, Marion Iriart, John Otero, Fidel Otero and Tranquilino Otero. Mrs. Brito is survived by her sister, Ruth Saavedra and three brothers, Vicente Otero and wife Inez, Albert Otero and wife Flora and Wilfred Otero and wife Cecilia, her sisters-in-law Susie Otero, Stella Otero, Ruth Brito, brothers-in-law Landy Brito and wife Mary Lou and Benny Brito and wife Lourdes, several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her step-children, Betty Cooper, Sue Ann Smith and husband Cliff, Cecilia Lovato and husband Joe, Virginia Sanchez, Alberta Milton and husband, and Raymond Brito and wife Marty, several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Brito received her Bachelor's Degree from St Joseph College, Albuquerque, and her Master's degree from Creighton University in Nebraska. She was a member of the Order of Franciscan nuns for 24 years in Colorado Springs, Co. Margaret was a member of the National Education Association and Delta Kappa Gamma. Her love for children saw a teaching career that spanned 46 years in places such as Colorado Springs, Nebraska, Los Alamos, Grants, Gallup and finally retiring from the Los Lunas Public Schools. Upon retirement, she traveled extensively with her husband Efren to Spain, Rome, Hawaii, Mexico, several states including Alaska and the Panama Canal. Mr. and Mrs. Brito were members of the Queen of Heaven Catholic Parish for many years. She will long be remembered for her generosity, intelligence, love of education and especially her love of her family. A Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 28, 2009 at French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd NE, and a Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2009 at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church with Burial to follow at Sandia Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Felix Saavedra, Lucas Otero, Ronald Williams, Johnny Otero, Albert "Boy" Otero, Richard Moya, Peter Otero, Tommy Otero, John Lemire and Alfred Otero. Honorary Pallbearers are Margaret's Godchildren, Josephine Brito, Marc Brito, Carl Martinez, Ryan Bonniwell, Victoria Perez, Sheila Sandoval, Nina Sumner, Bernadette Picchione, Beverly Servinghalls and Placida Sarracino.
