MONTOYA -- Esequiel Kelly, 85, a resident of Corrales, New Mexico, passed away Saturday evening, May 23, 2009 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Kelly was born September 18, 1923 the son of Miguel C. and Lupita Pino Montoya in Cerro, New Mexico. He grew up in Cerro, NM and Walsenburg, CO and was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a graduate of the University of New Mexico and was employed by Sandia National Laboratories for 35 years, retiring in 1988 as a Department Manager of Computer Operations. As a young man working for the Rural Electric Association, he helped bring electricity to many areas of northern New Mexico, which led to his discovery of Black Lake, NM which later led to his avocation for ranching and raising cattle in Black Lake. He was an avid fly fisherman from his early youth and fished the rivers and streams throughout the entire Rocky Mountain region. He took great pride in the produce from his backyard gardens, often donating fruits and vegetables to local charities. He passed six days shy of his 63rd wedding anniversary to his surviving wife, Theresa Medina Montoya. Kelly was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Joe. He is survived by his five children, Betty Ann Ryan and husband Ned of Rio Rancho, Jerry Montoya and wife June of Corrales, Stephen Montoya and wife Linda of Las Vegas, NV, Paul Montoya and wife Janet of Denver, CO, and Gene Montoya and wife Maria of Corrales; brothers, Floyd Montoya and wife Bernice of Mountain view, CA, Lupe Young and wife Teresa of Cerro, NM and his sister Dubie Rael and husband John of Albuquerque; fifteen grandchildren, Kellie R. Scoggie and husband Rick, Jaime R. Testa and husband Alvaro, Patrick P. Ryan, Laura M. Gallardo, Angelica Montoya, Jenna Montoya, Jodi Montoya, Belinda M. Labovitz and husband Brian, Adam K. Montoya, Leah Montoya, Jennifer M. Miller and husband Mikel, Jaclyn M. Callahan and husband Brian, Scott Montoya, Shelby Montoya, Peter, Johnny, Michael and Patricia Alvarado; and seven great-grandchildren, Alvaro and Alessandra Testa, Andrew and Luke Miller, Emery Callahan, Alexander Labovitz, and Cruz Gallardo. The Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 from 6 to 7 PM with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM at San Ysidro Catholic Church in Corrales. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the San Ysidro Catholic Church in Corrales with interment following in Vista Verde Memorial Park, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. Pallbearers will be Ned Ryan, Patrick Ryan, Adam Montoya, Alvaro Testa, Mikel Miller, and Brian Callahan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Michael J.
