SPRUNK -- Steve Conrad Sprunk, Retired Sgt. Major, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, born July 4, 1937, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Sprunk; daughters, Stephanie Imbro, Yvonne Bacon (Bart), and Sabrina Chavez; son, Esteban (Justine); grandchildren, James, R.J., Matthew, Sydney; and great-grandchild, Austin; brothers, Rudy (Priscilla), Robert (Mari), Leo, and Lawrence; sisters, Annabelle Saavedar, Elsie Saavedar (Ben), and Marie Padilla (Lupe); co-parents, Max and Ester Peralta. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret Sprunk; his brother, Eugene; and his sister, Doris. He served for 22 years in the USMC, at which time he conducted a total of five tours in the Vietnam War. Steve belonged to the Elks, Purple Heart (Commander of Chapter 2484), and Woodman of the World Youth Coordinator. He loved fishing, golf, and hunting. Steve worked 32 years in the plumbing, heating and cooling business. A Celebration of Life will be held, Friday May 22, 2009 at 7 p.m., at French Mortuary, Westside location, 9300 Golf Course Road NW. Family and friends may visit Steve prior the Service from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Military order of Purple Heart, 9712 Arvilla Avenue NE, 87111.
