SANDY -- Elsie Dell Sandy, 96, passed away after a long illness on Saturday, May 2, 2009. We are grateful that she suffers no more and is at rest. She is survived by her son, Ray Sandy; grandchild, Keith and wife, Deanna; and great-grandchildren, Kylie and Tarren Sandy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Frank Sandy and granddaughter, Jennifer Sandy. Elsie Dell Beckett was born on November 4, 1912 to Cal and Mamie Beckett in Hope, NM. She married "Frank" on November 7, 1942 in Yuma, AZ while he was stationed with the US Army during WWII. Elsie was employed with Sandia National Labs and retired in 1982. She and Frank could be found many a weekend at their cabin retreat in the Jemez Mountains and getting together with friends on camping and fishing trips where you could hear the sound of her laughter. After her husband retired from Trailways Bus, they moved to Elephant Butte and enjoyed having their grandchildren come to stay. "Nana" was crazy about her grandchildren and was always ready to go to basketball games, banquets, or team roping events. She never wanted to miss any opportunity that allowed her to show her pride for them and they now hold on to the many wonderful memories of their Nana. A Memorial Service will be conducted by APD Police Chaplain, Brian Denison on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, 11:00 a.m., at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE.
