SILBERSTEIN -- Lola Smetana Silberstein passed away on January 11, 2009 after a long illness. Lola was born in Poland on April 13, 1925, and survived the Holocaust in which the rest of her family perished. After World War II, Lola moved to Paris, where she met and married Benjamin Smetana, who also lost his family in the Holocaust. The couple had two daughters, Beatrice and Sylvia, in Paris, and a third, Sharon, after they moved to the United States. After Benjamin's death, Lola married Philip Silberstein and moved to Israel, returning to the US in 2003 to be with her daughter, Sylvia. She made her final return to Israel for her burial. Lola was a loving and nurturing mother and grandmother, survived by her daughters and grandchildren; David, Hadar, Ranit, and Noa. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 25, 2009 at Adat Yeshua Messianic Synagogue, 529 Jefferson St. NE.
