KRUEGER -- Jo Ann Krueger, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2009. Jo Ann was born and raised in Iowa and received her B.A. in English Literature from Drake University with Phi Beta Kappa distinction. Following a period of study in England on a Fulbright Scholarship, she married Bob Krueger and began teaching in Santa Fe. She earned her master's degree in counseling in 1965 and Ph.D. in educational administration in 1975 from the University of New Mexico. She enjoyed a successful career in education with the Albuquerque Public Schools which included counseling at Highland and Eldorado, and high school administration at Del Norte and Manzano. While Principal at Manzano, she was named the outstanding secondary school principal for New Mexico and her school was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for its "Excellence in Education." She left APS in 1988 to become the Director of the UNM Cooperative Educational Administrative Internship Program in the preparation of school leaders and she also taught courses to future school administrators. Upon her retirement, she was honored by her peers when they commenced the "Dr. Jo Ann Krueger Award for Exemplary Education Leadership" which is awarded annually to an outstanding educator. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was active in numerous professional organizations including Phi Delta Kappa, The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, The American Educational Research Association, The National Council of Professors of Educational Administration, the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement and the University Council for Educational Administration. Dr. Krueger authored a number of publications and articles concerning effective training methods for preparing school administrators. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert H. Krueger; two daughters, Roberta Krueger, MD of San Antonio, Texas and Sandra Krueger Eckert and husband Martin W. Eckert of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Scott Stuckey, Kristin Stuckey, Aubrey Eckert and Regina Eckert; one great grandchild; one sister Mary Inman of Chico, California; one niece, Diane Inman and husband Dave Ferris also of Chico, California. Jo Ann's family would like to thank the dedicated staff at The Cottages of Albuquerque and Hospice De La Luz for all of their care and assistance. In lieu of flowers, should you desire, please consider a memorial contribution to the APS Education Foundation or to the charity of your choice. A Memorial Service for Dr. Krueger will be held Saturday, January 31, 2009, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Cremation has taken place and private interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery will be at a later date.
