DEWEY -- Alpha Lee Smith Dewey, an Albuquerque native, passed away at her Pinetop, Arizona residence after a lengthy illness, on Thursday, December 4, 2008. She was born on August 26, 1952 in Albuquerque to Richard and Olivia (Montoya) Smith. Alpha graduated from Del Norte High School, attended Business College and subsequently worked in several businesses over her career in Albuquerque. She and Ted, her husband of 31 years, lived in several locations in the southwest US following his career path and finally settled in the mountain town of Pinetop, Arizona. Alpha was an animal lover, and was always rescuing new pets of every ilk! To be greeted at her door by a parrot, dog, or cat (or several!) was the expected, not the unusual! Alpha was greatly loved and will be missed intensely. She is survived by her husband Ted of Pinetop, Arizona; her mother, Olivia Smith of Albuquerque; her sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Chuck Donahue of Albuquerque, and her brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Betty Smith of Shawnee, Kansas; nieces and nephews, Reina Gardner, Maureen Kirby, Christina Peacock, Meghan Donahue, Kelly Williams, Kimberly Smith, and Richie Smith. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 13, 2008, 1:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Humane Society of NM, 615 Virginia SE, Albuquerque, 87108.
