HAAS -- Herbert Werner Haas died in his sleep in the early hours on November 5, 2008. He had recently been diagnosed with multiple myeloma or blood cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy and taking medications in an attempt to extend his life for a much-deserved retirement. Born August 24, 1925, the son of Joe Haas and Agnes Bednarz Haas, he was third oldest of six siblings, Walter, Hugo, Mabel, Elsie and E.J. He served in the Army after World War II bringing food and supplies to the stranded West Berliners at the beginning of the Cold War. He left active duty in 1952 and discharged honorably from the Army as a Sergeant First-Class. Herbert was a kind, generous man, very devoted to his wife, Marion, and daughters, Claudia and Michele. Herbi, as he was called by his wife, knew how to do everything in construction, including plumbing, electrical, drywall, tile work, etc., etc. If he didn't know how to do something, he'd figure it out. He, for the most part single-handedly, with help here and there built 10 houses in the state of New Mexico in various locales. His most recent project was a beautiful sunroom in Sandia Park, NM which was, for the most part, completed late last year and although he had health issues which began in August of 2007, he finished an outside slab to complete the addition in June of this year. We have lost a husband and father that had not only the knowledge but the patience to take the time for quality. We already miss him very much. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter. A celebration of life will he held, Saturday, November 15, 2008, 1 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Berardinelli Family Funeral Service 1399 Luisa Street Santa Fe, NM 87505 (505) 984-8600
