FRANKLIN -- Ruth Herzberg Franklin, age 84, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away suddenly at home on October 21, 2008. She was born January 2, 1924 in Toledo, OH. She and Jack B. Franklin were married in 1945 and celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on June 25, 2005. Her academic achievements included a Masters in Public Health from the University of Michigan, a Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Toledo. Dr. Franklin was an Associate Professor in the College of Nursing at the University of New Mexico (UNM). There, she helped create the GEHM (Geriatric Education and Health Management) Program through the College of Nursing. Active in community service, Ruth was honored with the Florence Nightingale Legends Award by the local chapter of the National League of Nurses, she was an active member of the National Arthritis Foundation, UNM Center for Aging Research, the New Mexico Public Health Association, among others. She was an avid golfer, a member of the Four Hills Woman's Golf Association, and enjoyed needlework, bridge, and book club. She is survived by her husband, Jack B. Franklin of Albuquerque; sister Phyllis (Rex) Chaney of Florida; children, Jan Franklin of New York, Scott (Melinda Chee) Franklin of Michigan, and Susan Franklin of Indiana; daughters-in-law, Jess (Karl) Franklin of Michigan and Sharon Franklin of Kentucky. Grandchildren, Cynthia Franklin, Teresa Franklin, Deborah Franklin of Michigan, Robin Franklin and Michael Franklin of Kentucky, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church at 9100 Menaul Blvd. NE, Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to: Attn: Ruth H.
