SZALAY -- Linda Kay Szalay, daughter of J.W. Savage Sr. and Vivian Pugh Savage, passed away at her home in Santa Fe, NM on October 21, 2008. Linda was born on November 22, 1942 in Grand Island, NE. Linda grew up primarily in Los Alamos, NM and graduated from Los Alamos High School. While attending the University of Wyoming, Linda received a scholarship from the Army Nurse Corps and was commissioned Second Lieutenant. In 1964, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority. Linda was married in Colorado Springs in 1964. She became the proud mother of two daughters, Diane and Kimberly. Linda's parents had taught her the value of having strong ethics, values and morals which she passed on to her daughters. While raising her family in Colorado and Montana, Linda pursued her nursing career taking care of newborns and the elderly. Following the divorce from her first husband, Linda reunited with her high school sweetheart, Jerry Szalay. They were later married in Albuquerque, NM and have since resided in Santa Fe County. It was Linda's deep love of babies which lead her to obtain specialized education as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. For many years Linda kept constant vigil over her "little ones" in the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery. In turn, many grateful families kept in contact with pictures and letters which Linda treasured. Her dedication to caring and nurturing her babies also translated to a deep commitment to her family. She was the bond that kept the family strong and united. Family and friends alike would seek her advise, love and support. Many think of Linda as one of the strongest people they have ever known. Linda, as our perpetual caregiver, we know you will continue to watch over and guide us. Those who will continue to celebrate Linda's life include her spouse, Gerard (Jerry) Szalay; her daughters Diane Ehlert and Kimberly Coleman; her siblings Joan Lee, Bill Savage Jr. and Donna McClure; her children by marriage Janna Bunnell and Jeff Szalay; her grandchildren Jordan and Taylor Ehlert, Christopher Keene, Savanna and Michael Bunnell, and Krista Kayla and Kyle Szalay; and all the many other family members and friends who loved her. Linda's Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Funeral Service, located at 1399 Luisa Street, Santa Fe, NM 87505. We invite her friends and family to join us for a reception afterwards at the same location.
