GONZALES -- Ramon B. Gonzales passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday, October 6, 2008, after a wonderful life of 85 years. Ramon is survived by his wife of 60 years, Cecilia Rael Gonzales; his children, Frances, Patricia and Ramon; and his sons-in-law, Robert Vanderkrabben and Ross Henke. Ramon was the son of the late Adelida and Leopoldo Garcia and the nephew of the late Monsignor Jose Garcia. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Eva and Clara and his brother, John. He was born in Santa Fe and lived most of his adult life in Albuquerque. With his passing, we have lost another member of the "Greatest Generation". Ramon served his country in World War II as a decorated member of the Army's 476th Ordnance Evacuation Company in North Africa and Italy. Upon returning from the War, he married Cecilia and began his career with the United States Postal Service from which he retired as a Postal Supervisor after 30 years. Ramon was a faithful member of the Queen of Heaven Catholic Parish for 45 years. He was a longtime member of the Retired Federal Employee Association and a benefactor of the Brothers of the Good Sheperd and Salesian Missions. He was a fervent fan of the Dallas Cowboys football team, through thick and thin, since the early 60's. The family deeply thanks the staff of the Hospice of the Sandias, the Albuquerque Heights Health Care and Rehabilitation Center and Home Instead Senior Care for their loving care of our Dad and Mom. A Rosary will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2008, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Mass will be Friday, October 10, 2008, 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5310 Claremont NE, 87110, with interment to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith NE, 87102. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Brothers of the Good Sheperd, 218 Iron Ave SW, 87102, or the New Mexico Affiliate of the American Diabetes Association, 2625 Pennsylvania NE, Suite 225, 87110.
