GRIEGO -- Robert M. Griego, entered into rest at the age of 97, on Wednesday, August 13, 2008. He lived a full life of family, friends, and dedication to the church. He was born on March 15, 1911 in Albuquerque, NM to Emiliano and Emmanuela (Montoya) Griego. He moved to Socorro, NM to teach Vocational Carpentry at Socorro High School and retired in 1973 after teaching for 38 years. He was very active with the Socorro Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, and served many years on the Socorro Electric Co-op board. Robert loved sports and there wasn't a day that he wouldn't be watching a game whether it was his Sacramento Kings, San Francisco 49ers, or baseball, and of course, boxing was his favorite. During his teaching years, he didn't miss a high school game. Robert was preceded in death by his son Ron; and his loving wife, Toni (Ramirez) Griego. His heart always ached for Toni and looked forward to being with her again. Robert was survived by four daughters and their families, Helen Hickman of Rancho Cordova, CA and her daughters, Cheryl Webb, Cindy Chandler and Barbara Parkinson; Roberta Garcia and her husband, Moises of Spring, TX and their children, Joslynn Newton, Laura Stanley and Robert Garcia; Francine Wooldridge and husband, Milton of Plano, TX and children, Cathryn Roberts and Chris Wooldridge; Laurel Armijo and husband, Dan of Socorro, NM and children, Aaron and Michael Armijo; great-grandchildren: Brandon and Meghan Maccoun; Emma and Ian Chandler; Victoria Stanley; Matt and Annie Garcia; Austin and Gillian Roberts; Matthew Griego; CJ, Cierra, Dezirae, Michael II, Jordan, and Marcus Armijo. "Mr. Griego " will be remembered for his determination that everyone he taught would learn something during his teaching of carpentry. To this day his students tell stories of "Mr. Griego's" required perfection from his students and how he molded their futures with his required perfection. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at the San Miguel Catholic Church in Socorro. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 25, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at San Miguel with Father Andy Pavlak as Celebrant. Burial will be in the San Miguel Cemetery. Pallbearers are Dan Armijo, Milton Wooldridge, Moises Garcia, Brandon Maccoun and Matthew Griego. Honorary Pallbearers are Aaron Armijo, Michael Armijo, Charlie Griego, Danny Griego, Jerry Griego, Rudy Latasa, Paul Castillo, Danny Trujillo, Manny Marquez, Juan Gonzales, Ed Morgan, Placido Garcia, Albert Zimmerly, Ciriaco Sedillo and Jerry Lopeman.
