POMPA -- Lilly Franco Pompa died on July 31, 2008, in Scottsdale, AZ where she was staying with her son, Robert. She is survived by her son and daughter, Carolyn Acree of VA; two brothers, Frank and Fidel Franco, and a sister, Evangeline Griego, all of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her husband Jose C. Pompa. Mrs. Pompa was 87 years old. Born in Chihuahua, Mexico, she came to the U.S. as an infant. She attended Albuquerque H.S. and UNM before marrying Joe in 1942. They met while he was stationed in Albuquerque before heading to Europe during World War II. They spent nearly 63 happy years together until his death in 2005. She retired from the Social Security Administration. In her retirement years she loved to be on the go-traveling to many places in Europe, South America and throughout the U.S. with her husband, her children, and other family members. Her life was rich and full, and the many friendships she nurtured over the years attest to her warm and generous nature. She embraced life with a spirit and vitality that was infectious, and she was totally selfless in the love and care she lavished on her family. Her family and friends will cherish her memory. Mrs. Pompa's remains will be interred with those of her husband at the National Military Cemetery in Santa Fe. A mass and memorial service in her honor will held at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church at a later date when arrangements can be made. Contributions in her name may be made to St. Bernadette's or to Hospice of the Valley, 9494 E. Becker Lane, Scottsdale, AZ 85260.
