FRYE -- Russell W. Frye, a veteran of World War II, the Korean conflict and the U.S. Army Reserves, died June 26, 2008 at age 88 in Albuquerque, NM, his home of 21 years. A retired personnel administrator for the Veteran's administration, Mr. Frye was a regular visitor to the Volcano Vista Senior Center and a member of the Rio Grande Presbyterian Church. His wife Myrtle Violet Frye (nee Miller) died in Albuquerque in 1994, the 57th year of their marriage. Mr. Frye is survived by a son, Jeffrey Frye of Albuquerque, Jeff's wife Lauren, and granddaughters Megan and Jillian Frye; a daughter, Darlene Lehmann of Lyme Center, New Hampshire, Darlene's husband Jeff, and granddaughters Laurel Finley of Lyme Center, New Hampshire and Kathy Sheldon of West Patterson, New Jersey. He had four great-grandchildren: Jessica Finley, Alex Finley, Sam Finley of New Hampshire and Audrey Delgado of New Jersey. Mr. Frye was born August 14, 1919 in Chicago, Illinois to Russell L. Frye and Helen Frye, (nee Fuelscher). His identical twin Robert C. Frye of Palm Springs, California, preceded him in death in 2003. He is survived by brother Howard Frye of Crawfordville, Florida; and a sister, Helen Cichy of Round Lake Illinois. A Purple Heart recipient, Mr. Frye served in the Army as an infantry captain. He helped lead the proud force that went ashore at Normandy on D-Day and prevailed to march across France and Germany to liberate Europe. Russell Frye and wife Myrtle moved to Albuquerque from Arlington Heights, Illinois in 1987 to be closer to family and enjoy a warmer climate. They were both fond of sunsets over the volcanoes on Albuquerque's western skyline and the pink glow just before dusk on the Sandia Mountains east of their home. They looked forward to meeting again at this moment in peace above.
