SULTEMEIER -- Ernest "Red" Sultemeier, 88, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008. Ernest was born in Corona, NM on February 25, 1920 to Frank and Dulcie Sultemeier. Red is survived by his wife of 53 years, Allene; two sons, Allen and wife, Kristin of Capitan, Mark and wife, Barbara of Corona; son-in-law, Bunk Mullins and wife, Laurie of Las Cruces; grandchildren, Dulcie of Corona, Dustin, Keith and Wade of Capitan and Byron and Kyle of Las Cruces. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Frankie and Clintie and his daughter, Lois Ann Mullins. He served his country in the United States Army as a Tech Sgt. and was a ball turret gunner and sustained a serious head wound on one of the missions he flew. Ernest served one tour and was three missions short of being discharged when he was wounded. He received the Purple Heart and the air medal with three oak leaf clusters. After recovering he returned to the ranch he loved in Corona and remained active there until he moved to Albuquerque for health reasons. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Saturday, May 31, 2008, 11:00 a.m., at the Corona Public School Auditorium in Corona, NM.
