YOAKUM -- Varoqua Marie Shambaugh, 95, born October 15, 1912, died in Oro Valley, AZ on April 9, 2008, after a stroke on Jan 3, 2008. She grew up in Newton, Kansas and came to Albuquerque in 1939 when her husband hired on with the Santa Fe Railroad. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar S. Yoakum; and great-granddaughter, Jayme Suzanne Nicholson. She is survived by her son, Randal J. Yoakum and wife, Sarah, of Albuquerque; and four grandchildren, Kaylynn and Bill Holloman of Oro Valley, R. Craig and Jane Yoakum of Albuquerque, Jeannette and Curtis Bay of Edgewood, and Mitch and Terri Yoakum of Albuquerque. She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandsons. Varoqua retired from Sandia Labs and was active in Beta Sigma Phi and Eastern Star for over 50 years. A Memorial Service is being planned for the summer.
