HARMER -- Shelley Lynn Harmer, age 42, of Knoxville passed away on Friday, April 11, 2008 at Parkwest Medical Center. She was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church, Knoxville, TN. Shelley is survived by her parents, Jan And Dave Harmer of Knoxville; brother, David Mark Harmer of Michigan; Christopher Gierisch of Knoxville, devoted caregiver with her during her battle with breast cancer for more than five years. She also leaves Barbara Curran (Hansen) of Connecticut, her lifetime best friend. She is furthermore survived by her aunt and uncle, Barbara and Don Harmer, as well as three cousins and a niece. Shelley attended the University of Tennessee and the University of New Mexico, where she was chosen as an outstanding student of French, and was awarded a full year of study at the Sorbonne, University of Paris. She will be greatly missed for her wit, her charm and her courage. Shelley loved animals, especially her Great Dane dogs. She excelled in both water and snow skiing. Don't grieve for me since now I'm free I'm following the path God laid for me. I took his hand when I heard Him call. I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day To laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way. I found the peace at close of day. If my parting has left a void Then fill it with remembered joy. Friendship, love shared, a laugh, A kiss.. ah, yes these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow I wish you sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I've savored much: Great family, good friends, good times, A loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all to brief Don't lengthen it now with undo grief. Lift up your heart and share with me-- God wanted me; He set me free.
