CHAVEZ -- Emery L. Our Heavenly Creator has called our brother, father, and husband Emery. He is an enrolled member of the Pueblo of Acoma and was employed at Sandia National Laboratory for over 25 years prior to his retirement in 1998. Survivors include his wife Ruth; daughter Theresa and husband TSgt. James C. Lyons, and their children Isabella, Zachary and Jacqueline of Elmendorf AFB, Alaska; and son Gabriel Sanchez. Other survivors include brothers Vincent Chavez and wife Bernadine of California; Mark Chavez and wife Shirly; Tim Chavez and wife Elvira; Ben Chavez and wife Valereie; and sisters Charlotte Garcia and Doreen Chavez, all from Acoma Pueblo. Emery is also survived by his brother in-laws Ralph and wife Inez Sanchez; Clarence Sanchez; Jerry and wife Velma; and sister in-law Irene Contreras; Mother and Father in-law Joe and Alice Sanchez all of Albuquerque. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren, relatives, golfing buddies, and friends at Sandia National Laboratory. Emery enjoyed his retirement by golfing at his favorite courses which included Isleta Eagle and UNM Championship Golf Course. He was actively involved in Native American Golf Association (NIGA). He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. Rosary will be conducted at the family home in McCarty Village on Monday January 28, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Santa Maria de Acoma Mission, McCarty Village at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Mount of Peace Cemetery in McCarty Village.
