KATZ -- Gloria Green Katz, born Septmeber 10, 1911, left this world at age 96 in Albuquerque, New Mexico at 5 a.m., Sunday January 13, 2008. Born in a small village outside Odessa, Russia, she lived through the Russian Revolution and emigrated to the United States in 1933 after two years in Havana, Cuba. She lived most of her life in Skokie, Illinois before retiring to Wynmoor Village, in Coconut Creek, Florida, finally coming to stay in New Mexico with her son for the last seven years. Gloria joins her husband of 56 years, Irving Katz, who passed six years ago. She is survived by her son, Norman Katz; granddaughters, Miranda Katz and Lucia Katz; and great-granddaughter, Savanah Ziegler. She also leaves behind her loving daughter- in-law, Chance Katz; devoted step-children, Ixchel and Isac Barbosa; and great-granddaughter, Jazzmin. Devoted nieces, Jackie and Evelyn and nephew, Larry, will also miss her much. Her devoted cat, Yoda, was her true companion for the last six years. Gloria was a social leader in all the communities she lived in, from Chicago to Florida to New Mexico, where she became a respected elder whose company was enjoyed and sought out by her family and friends and young creative artists, who appreciated her 96 years of wisdom and living through entire 20th century with grace, wit and above all, love for family, friends and life itself. A memorial was held at the family home Friday, January 18, 2008 to commemorate her vivacious life. She lives on in our hearts as a force for creative vitality and love.
