FUKUSHIMA -- Chiyo Fukushima, 96, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2007. She was born in Chicago, the oldest child of immigrant parents, Sentaro and Midori Maeyama. Chiyo graduated from John Fisk Elementary and Hyde Park High School before taking classes at University of Chicago and studying piano at Chicago Musical College. She met and married a young Japanese diplomat Shintaro Fukushima and moved to Japan in 1941 where she lived for 62 years. Chiyo moved back to the US in 2003 and lived the past four years in Albuquerque. She is survived by her son, Eiichi Fukushima and partner, Alice Hannon of Albuquerque; grandson, Craig and his family of Toyota, Japan; granddaughter, Noelle and her family of Tucson, AZ; her former daughter-in-law, Pam Hilty of Albuquerque; brother, George Maeyama of Tucson, AZ; nephew, Robert Maeyama and family of St. John, IN; and niece, Meredith Brooks and family of Oakbrook, IL; and many friends in Japan, the United States, and other parts of the world. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a grandson, Forrest Fukushima.
