DUMAS -- Wilfred Alexander Dumas, Jr., 77, a resident of Albuquerque since 1966, lost his hard-fought battle against cancer and passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2007. He is survived by his son, Mark Alexander Dumas of San Diego; and by his daughter, Patricia Dumas Bardell and her husband, Timothy Michael Bardell of Minneapolis, MN; by Helene Pat Dumas of Minneapolis, MN; by his aunt, Estelle Lavalle of Worcester, MA; by his aunt, Beatrice Were of Auburn, MA; by his cousin, Gloria Bourgeois of Lunenburg, MA; and by his cousin, Gerald Dumais and wife, Ann, of Garden Ridge, TX. Will joined the Air Force in 1950 and trained as a gunner on B-29 and B-36 aircraft. He fell in love with Albuquerque when first stationed here in 1954. When the Korean War ended, he trained as a draftsman and served in England, Utah, and Massachusetts before returning to Albuquerque in 1966. He loved the natural beauty of Albuquerque, and enjoyed the outdoor activities here, like hunting and camping, so he asked to stay until his retirement from the Air Force in 1971. After retirement, Will was the chief draftsman for McIntyre and Quiros Southwest, the company that platted Rio Ranch Estates. Will also worked for several other Albuquerque companies, performing a variety of projects, including work at White Sands Missile Range. Will had many artistic talents, including painting drawing, photography, and ship modeling based on historic drawings. Once retired from drafting, Will began a second career as a photographer, with some of his work published in New Mexico Photographer Magazine. His volunteer work at the Rio Grande Nature Center combined his love of nature and photography, and brought him much joy. Will battled his cancer courageously with a great deal of heart, his wonderful sense of humor, and his strong faith. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and love him. Visitation with the family will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2007, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel.
