CHILES -- William Chancellor Chiles, 81, a resident of Los Alamos, passed away on Friday, September 7, 2007 following a short illness. William was preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie and Roy Chiles; brother, Jack Chiles; sister, Nancy Foreman; and ex-wife, Mary Ann Chiles. Mr. Chiles arrived in Los Alamos in 1943 and worked as a Military Policeman. After WWII he remained in Los Alamos and worked for Los Alamos Scientific Lab for 40 years until his retirement. After retiring, he returned to the Laboratory as a consultant. He designed and built high speed cameras for explosives testing. Mr. Chiles enjoyed golfing, bowling, prospecting wood working, hunting and spending time with family. Bill is survived by his daughters, Vicki Strein and husband, Gary of Mountain Park, Lisa Chiles of Reno, NV and Bonnie Chiles of Los Alamos, Lori Coffelt and husband, Kerry; grandchildren, Chris Strein and wife, Kari of Bothell, WA, Kelly Ledesma and husband, Albert of Maricopa, AZ, Collin Strein of Mountain Park, Davina, Richard Ferrin both, of Reno, NV, Megan Chiles of Los Alamos, Jack Coffelt and wife, Dawn of Keller, TX, and Jeremy Coffelt and wife, Jennifer of Pagosa Springs, CO; brothers, Robert Chiles and wife, Della of Albuquerque; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, September 14, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
