STEWART -- Glynn Lee Stewart -Sunday, September 9, 2007 at 3:16 p.m., the doors of heaven opened and welcomed one of the greatest of the Greatest Generation. Born in May, Texas May 21, 1924 to farmers Philo and Ella Stewart, Glynn lived his live serving his country and his family and the Lord. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Leota May Stewart; his sons, Dale Lee and Terry Wayne Stewart and daughter, Sandra Kay Black, husband, Lee; grandchildren, LaNetta Bueoy, husband, Jeff; Tanya Stewart, Angela Cott, Eric Todd Black, wife, Dalese and Misty Lee Fleming, and husband, Bobby. His great-grandchildren, include Jena Joy Corral, Dalton, Danielle, and Jonathan Blake Bueoy, Bradley Cott, Allen Stewart Black, Alexis Michele Black and Mackenzie Lee Fleming. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He served with distinction with the 552nd Signal Depot during WWII in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and in the Pacific Theater receiving the EAME Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars during the battle at Rome-Arno. He completed service in Okinawa and Japan. He served the Lord throughout his life. As a building contractor, master carpenter and craftsman he built 45 churches in Texas and New Mexico. He served First Baptist Church Santa Fe as Chairman of Ushers for over 30 years. He was tireless in his service to the church and members. Many appreciated his work on their homes and facilities at Glorieta Conference Center. In addition to his church, he also served on the New Mexico Baptist Children's Home Board. He served nine years on the New Mexico Baptist Foundation and Church Finance Corporation Boards, seven years as Chairman of the latter. As a contractor he was a noted home builder of many of Santa Fe's finest homes. His commercial work included the intricate detail work at the Greer Garson Theater, Santa Fe New Mexico, Bank of Santa Fe and many other commercial buildings. He may be best known as the person who introduced self storage (A-1) facilities to Santa Fe having built many locations. Following WWII he and his family made their home in Midland, TX where he built many subdivisions, the city golf course and served on the City Planning Council and President of the Home Builders Association. His love of sports centered on rodeo. He served as President of Rodeo de Santa Fe and on the Board for many years. His handy work can be seen in the facilities at the rodeo grounds. Never without his trademark western hat, Glynn established Stewart's Hat Forms. The beautifully crafted pieces for western hats are in offices and homes across the country. Glynn was never without another trademark: the twinkle in his eye. Along with his eyes, Glynn's contagious laugh and kidding communicated his great love of people and life. He traveled the state as a Gideon speaking in churches of many denominations. He had served as Gideon State Memorial Bible Chairman. One of his joys was visiting the staff at national Gideon offices in Tennessee. To the glory of God he was a blessing to his wife, family and many friends as a humble servant and gifted craftsman. He was never without a kind word and generous hospitality. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Mexico Baptist Foundation P.O. Box 16560, Albuquerque, NM 87191, with designations to benefit First Baptist Church Santa Fe, NM Baptist Children's Home and Gideons. Services will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2007, 11:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church, 1605 Old Pecos Trail in Santa Fe. Friends may visit First Baptist Church, Tuesday 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
