PHILLIPS -- James M. Phillips, born April 22, 1927, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of August 13, 2007 surrounded by family. Jim was born in Tontogany, OH and served in the Army during WWII. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1951 with a Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering. Jim was the middle of three generations of engineers in the Phillips family. Jim was married October 21, 1950 to Arlean his wife of 56 years. Jim was a resident of Albuquerque since 1951 when he started employment with Sandia National Laboratories. He retired from there in 1986 after 36 years of service. He was also the co-founder of Professional Paint Supply in Albuquerque and retired from that business in 2000. Jim was an avid car enthusiast his whole life and was a charter member of the original Model A club. He held various offices in local car clubs such as the Lincoln Club and the Sports Car Club of America. Jim is survived by his wife, Arlean K. Phillips; daughter, Judith Chapman and husband, Ken; son, Bruce Phillips; sister, Marcia Brooks of Rio Rancho; and four grandchildren, Erin Chapman, Scott Chapman, Monica Sower and husband, Daniel, and Michelle Phillips, all of Albuquerque. A Memorial Service for the celebration of Jim's life will be held on Friday, August 17, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 7701 Candelaria NE.
