DE MONTMOLLIN -- Nina May Snead de Montmollin, 87, artist, staunch Democrat, die-hard Bronco fan and lover of life, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2007. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, James M. of Albuquerque; daughters, Linda McCowen and husband, David, Merrie Blue and husband, David and Michele Salazar and husband, John; and ten grandchildren. She was recently preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy de Montmollin. Nina was born in Greenwood, SC on November 26, 1920. She graduated from Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA in 1940. After marrying Jim in 1943, they settled near Atlanta, GA. Jim was recalled into the Army in 1950, and she followed him, with her young children Kathy and Linda, to Worms, Germany. They lived there for eight months, which gave them the opportunity to travel to many European countries and sparked their interest in travel in later years. Upon returning to the US, they moved to Albuquerque, where Merrie and Michele, their other two children, were born. Nina and Jim traveled extensively through the years in Europe, Korea, Guatemala and other locations. Nina enjoyed playing golf for many years, and was an accomplished watercolor landscape artist. She learned to downhill ski at 42 and continued until she was 77. She enjoyed summers and skiing at Crested Butte, CO and spent considerable time there with her family and getting to know the older generation of miners. Nina also had a great interest in Democratic Party activities, and served as a delegate to two National Party Conventions. She was appointed by the Governor to the Museum of NM Board of Regents, the Governor's Interagency/Public Advisory Council for Children and Youth, and the NM Advisory Council on Libraries. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, August 10, 2007, 11:00 a.m., at La Mesa Presbyterian Church, 7401 Copper Ave NE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to La Mesa Presbyterian Church in her memory. French Mortuary, Inc. 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE (505) 275-3500 www.frenchmortuary.com
