MARTINEZ -- Robert N. Martinez "Nick", born on September 8, 1940, in Las Vegas, NM, passed away at his home in Albuquerque on Wednesday, August 1, 2007. Nick, as he was known by his family, was an honorable and gentle man, a very loving husband and father. Nick was in the US Navy from 1961 to 1968. While serving in the Navy he met his wife, Josie in New York City. After they married, they settled in Harbor City, CA for 26 years and then moved to Albuquerque in 1992. Nick retired from UNM Physical Plant Department in May 2006. He loved to travel and truly enjoyed taking cruises. May our Lord Jesus hold him in His gentle arms. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Martinez Jr.; his brother, Fred Martinez of Pueblo CO; sister, Ida Madrid and brothers, Valentin Martinez of Las Vegas, NM and Lorenzo Martinez of Carson, CA. Nick is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Josie Martinez; his daughter, Linda; son, Andrew; his sister in heart, Helen Martinez; several sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews from California, Colorado and Texas. A Memorial Service will be held at Mesa View United Methodist Church, 4701 Montano NW, on Friday, August 3, 2007 at 7:00 p.m., with Pastor Gerry Lightwine, presiding. A Reception will follow at the Church. Interment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.
