STEWART -- Carlotta (Tilly) Stewart, age 94, was born on December 16, 1912 in Hernandez, NM to the late Cresencio and Maria Elena Vigil. She left to be with her heavenly father on July 17, 2007. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn and son-in-law, John Thompson of Madera, CA; daughter, Margaret Chmura of Albuquerque, NM; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister. Kathleen and brother-in-law. Armond Iaia of Auburn, NY; and many nieces and nephews. Carlotta was admitted to the St. Vincent Orphanage in Santa Fe, NM on September 15, 1919 and graduated from high school on August 31, 1930. She enrolled in the St. Vincent School of Nursing in Santa Fe and graduated, with honors, on May 12, 1933. After passing the New Mexico State Board she practiced her profession at the St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe, NM before transferring to St. Josephs in Albuquerque, NM where she served as head nurse of the Labor and Delivery Department until May 12, 1967 when she moved to California and served as head nurse of the Labor and Delivery Department of Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance until she retired in 1977. When asked one time by a reporter how long she had been the head nurse she replied "100 years." After living with Kathryn and John for 15 years, Carlotta entered the Madera Rehabilitation and Nursing Center where she spent the last 5 years of her life. She will be fondly remembered by her family as the "Stork" who helped deliver all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all of her nieces and nephews throughout the years. A Celebration Mass will be held at St. Joachims Catholic Church on Friday, August 3, 2007 at 11:00 a.m.
