HAWK -- Carl L. Hawk, Jr., 88, passed away on Wednesday, July 25, 2007. Carl was born on July 12, 1919 in Chicago, IL to Carl Sr. and Eleanor Hawk. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann, who resided at the family home in Albuquerque; and by his sister who lived most of her life in small towns in Kansas. Carl is survived by his son, Bob Hawk of Albuquerque. He spent most of his early life in Chicago where he joined the U.S. Navy prior to the start of WWII. When the war ended, Carl and Ann decided in 1951 to pack up and leave Chicago, stopping in Albuquerque along the way. It was an immediate love affair with the city and they decided to make it permanent. Carl went to work for Galles Motor Company for a short time and then began employment with Sandia Laboratories. Ann also joined Sandia. After some 22 years with Sandia, Carl retired, followed by Ann a few years later. During his retirement years, Carl adopted a philosophical outlook and became involved in numerous civic and charitable activities in the Albuquerque area. Carl assumed a leading role in bringing his many friends into the fold. He generously gave to civic and charitable organizations and was an astute contributor of ideas to any organization he was involved with. Carl was very proud of his naval career and continuously fought for the flag and the ideas represented by the American dream. Carl also adopted the small town of Verdigre, Nebraska. He continuously supported the town in its economic needs, making the town a better place for everyone to live in. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held on Monday, July 30, 2007, 11:00 a.m, at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Lihte of Noon Day Ministry officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Carl Hawk Fund, c/o Noon Day Ministry, P.O. Box 25451, Albuquerque, NM 87125.
