STEPHENS -- Bonita L. Stephens, 61, died Wednesday June 27, 2007. Bonnie is survived by her loving husband, Claude L.; son, Cary L. of Colorado; daugter, Christine L. of Florida; and her three brothers, Duane, Norman, and Richard Johnson and their families. Bonnie was born in Fort Dodge, Webster County, IA and grew up in Dexter, IA. She attended Dexter-Redfield High School where she was an outstanding Varsity Athlete and Band member. She assisted the Blue Devils Basketball team to four winning seasons. In 1963 she led the softball team in hitting with a .714 Batting Avg. She was the 5th place district track winner in shot put, and a member of the saxophone quartet that earned a 2nd Rating in Contest. After high school she attended Hastings College in Hastings, NE where she attained a Bachelor's Degree as a Medical Technician. After college she moved south to Las Alamos, NM where she worked at Las Alamos Hospital. Soon after, she moved to Albuquerque, NM to work at Anna Kaseman Hospital where she loyally worked until she retired in 2004. In 1973, while living in Albuquerque, she met her husband, Claude Stephens. The beautiful couple married in Albuquerque on November 2, 1974. In 1977 they started their journey of raising a family when their son Cary was born. Two years later they added a daughter, Christine. They have raised two successful children. Bonnie's son has become a marvelous Home Builder in and around Denver, CO and her daughter has become a great softball player and instuctor in West Palm Beach, FL. Claude is a retired heavy equipment operator and is still residing in Albuquerque. Bonnie will be cremated and laid to rest in New Mexico. In memory of our loving wife, mother, and sister we ask that everyone plant a tree for her.
