DE ANGELIS -- GUILLERMO JULIO Master Watchmaker Guillermo Julio De Angelis, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2007, at home with his wife and daughter by his side after a brief, serious illness. His wife, Anita De Angelis; and his daughter, Anastazia De Angelis; his son, Dorian Crosley; his beloved mother, Yracema De Angelis; his sisters, Amalia Restucha, and Silvia and Graciela De Angelis, survive Guillermo. His father and hero, Washington Julio De Angelis, preceded Guillermo in death. Guillermo was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1959. He moved with his family at the age of two to Athens, GA, and spent the majority of his teenage years in Chapel Hill, NC. Guillermo moved to Albuquerque in 1983. At an early age it was obvious that Guillermo was blessed with many gifts. He was self-taught and an avid reader on every subject and loved reading adventure novels. Guillermo was first introduced to watch making at the age of eighteen, by his brother-in-law Roberto Restucha. At the age of eighteen Guillermo began his self-taught career as a watchmaker. In 1990 he began studying seriously to become a Master Watchmaker. He received the Richard Lang Award for the highest level ever achieved by the youngest watchmaker for the Master Watchmaker certification at the American Watchmakers Institute. Guillermo's primary goal was to earn this award. He attended numerous and challenging seminars through the AWCI to improve his skills in his beloved craft. His true gifts were in his ability to make parts from scratch and fix just about anything that needed repair. His hobbies were computer programming, hiking, sailing, camping, lathe work and numerous interests to vast to mention. Guillermo was self-employed as a watchmaker the majority of his career. In early 2005 Guillermo became the Master Watchmaker at Mati and Kabana Jewelers. He was the happiest he had ever been in his career as a watchmaker. Guillermo's illness overcame his ability to continue his craft at the bench. His Memorial will be held Monday, July 9, 2007 from 4-7:00 p.m. for family and friends. Contact relojero2@yahoo.com for directions to the Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Watchmakers and Clockmakers Institute at 701 Enterprise Dr., Harrison, OH, 45030-1696. The De Angelis family would like to express special thanks to Mati jewelers at Kabana in Albuquerque, dearest friends, Karen Fitzpatrick, Carolyn Feng, and Helga Byndas, for all of their love and support in good times and sad. For those who knew Guillermo, his spirit and thirst for knowledge touched all of us. Be free, be happy and be at peace and know that you will live forever in our hearts.
