SAGER -- The Reverend Susan Ward Sager, Episcopal Priest, wife, mother, advocate for the homeless, Registered Nurse and absolutely great cook passed away on Friday, May 12, 2007, following an all too short battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of almost 42 years, Edward M. Sager M.D.; her daughter, Susan Elizabeth Sager and partner, Kristine Riccardi of Portland, OR; her son, Major Edward M. Sager III and his wife, Lisa of Alexandria, VA; and her son, Matthew W. Sager and his wife, Jennifer of Ramona, CA. She is also survived by her brother, The Rev. Jeremiah Ward IV; and her mother, Lucie B. Ward, both of the Woodlands, TX; and cousins, Stewart Epperson of Austin, TX and Leverett Bogle and his wife, Sara of Rio Rancho; and many other friends and family members. Also surviving is her Border Collie, Lola. She was preceded in death by her father, Jeremiah Ward III. She was born in Wharton, TX on October 15, 1942 and attended the University of Texas, graduating in 1965 with a degree in Nursing. While in school she met her future husband, Ed and they were married December 18, 1965 in Georgetown, VA. After three years of Air Force duty with her then-Captain husband, they both settled in Albuquerque where they raised a family. She was ordained a Deacon and then a Priest by Bishop Richard Trelease and used her talents primarily working with the homeless, for whom she became a strong advocate. She enjoyed travel, working in her garden, her friends, her children and her dog. She and her husband were good friends, very much in love and for the most part inseparable. For 11 years during the summer they journeyed to Honduras to a rural village with a group to furnish much needed medical care to the local population. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church at 601 Montano Rd. NW, at 11:00 o'clock a.m. with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Martin's Hospitality Center Day Shelter Program at PO Box 27258 Albuquerque, NM 87125.
