ELSTON -- PAUL LEROY ELSTON, age 69, of Las Cruces passed away April 22, 2007 following a long hard battle with colon cancer. He was born in Metropolis, Illinois to Clarence and Imogene Elston on September 23, 1937. Paul was raised in Davison, Michigan and served two years in the US Army, then joined the US Air Force and in 1959 was stationed in Albuquerque, New Mexico for two years where he met the love of his life, his wife, Ellen, whom he married in 1963. He retired from Overhead Door Company in Albuquerque and later, in 1987, Paul and his wife moved from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Elephant Butte, New Mexico. Following his wife's retirement in 2005, they moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico where he lived until his death. Paul leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Ellen Elston, and their three children, David Elston and fiance, Fern Quintana, Wendy Kmetz and husband Mike, Katy Enriquez and husband Tom; six grandchildren, Paul V. Elston, Amanda Kmetz, Mikayla Kmetz, Gabriel Enriquez, Andrew Enriquez and Alyssa Enriquez all of Las Cruces. He also leaves behind his brothers, Ken Elston and wife Linda, Jack Elston and wife Karen all of Michigan; uncle, Jerry Williams of Las Cruces; numerous nieces and nephews and long time close friends, Ray and Barbara Evans and Jay Snelling all of Albuquerque. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Imogene Elston of Michigan; his oldest brother, Clarence "Jay" Elston of California and his maternal and paternal grandparents. At Paul's request cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 10 AM in Baca's Funeral Chapels, 300 E. Boutz Road with Monsignor Robert Getz officiating. Inurnment of cremains will take place at a later date in a crypt nest to his in-laws, Ken and Blanche Caruth at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum and Cemetery in Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in honor of Paul's memory be made to the American Cancer Society, 2929 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85016 Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels and Baca's Mimbres Crematory. 527-2222.
