ELKINS -- Ona Elkins, age 87, much loved mother and grandmother, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2007. She was born to Luther and Josephine Williams in Big Canyon, OK. Ona and her late husband, Leonard moved to Belen, NM, in 1943. She worked as an officer for the First National Bank of Belen for 28 years as the supervisor of the escrow department. Ona was a member of the First Baptist Church of Belen, a Past Matron of Jessamine Chapter of Eastern Star, Pilot Club of Belen and the National Association of Bank Women. She enjoyed monthly lunches with the retired bank women and participating in a quilting group that made lap throws for patients in nursing homes and hospitals. Ona is survived by her twin sister, Nona Lawrence of Glen Rose, TX; two children, Carole Christensen and her husband, Jay of Albuquerque, NM and Gary Elkins and his wife, Regina of Belen; four grandchildren, Karen Christensen Truelock and her husband, Alan, Sandee Elkins Whitehead and her husband, Shannon, Larry Christensen and his wife, Karen Marie, and Melissa Elkins Lucero and her husband, Edward; and many loving nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her seven great-grandchildren, Skyler and Shayla Elkins Whitehead, Claire, Amanda, and Lucie Truelock, Kristin Elkins, and Katee Elkins Lucero. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL, 33607-1460, c/o Edgar R. McGonegal, Director of Development. A public viewing will be held at First Baptist Church of Belen on Friday, April 20, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Terrace Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Christensen, Alan Truelock, Edward Lucero, Shannon Whitehead, Skyler Elkins Whitehead, and Don Elkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Clifford Dobbs, Dale Donaho, Jimmy Danner, Bill Crow, Bob Williams, and Kenton Berry.
