WARNER -- Charles L. Warner, age 78, passed away in Rio Rancho, NM on April 9, 2007. He was born on November 1, 1928 to James L. and Ruby Warner in Fort Worth, TX. He was fiercely proud of his Native American heritage, which included one quarter Choctaw blood. Charles' dream was to come to New Mexico and live in the mountains. He moved his family to Los Alamos in 1960 where he worked as a Nuclear Chemist at Los Alamos Lab for 31 years, retiring in 1991. He received his Bachelor's Degree from SMU and earned his Master's Degree during his career. In addition to his career, he was a dedicated conservationist. His love of animals led him to serve as the "Bear Man," ensuring that bears found in the township were safely relocated to the forest. In addition, he was involved in many other organizations. Charles loved to teach courses in hunting and gun safety and would address youth groups such as the Boy Scouts of America. Charles was a reserve game officer with the New Mexico Game and Fish Department, as well as an avid hunter. Charles was a member of the Los Alamos Church of Christ for over 30 years and later a member of the Rio Rancho Church of Christ. He was very active in multiple political and service organizations. Charles is survived by his wife, Ella Mae Warner; his two sons: Jim Warner and wife, Jenny of Rio Rancho, NM and Bryan Warner of Rio Rancho, NM. He is also survived by his three step-children: Robert Gore and wife, Roberta of Los Angeles CA, Judi Voelz and husband, David of Las Cruces, NM, and Jim Gore and wife, Cyndie Nielsen of Rio Rancho, NM; ten grandchildren: Benjamin and Carolyn Warner, Robert, Tim, David and Amy Warner, Austin Gore, and Alex, Katie, and Brian Voelz. Charles was preceded in death by his two previous wives: Annsalee Warner and Leona Thorpe-Warner. A visitation will take place at French Mortuary Westside Chapel, Thursday, April 12, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 10:00 a.m., Rio Rancho Church of Christ with Minister Joe McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow at Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos, NM at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his honor to the Albuquerque Christian Children's Home, 5700 Winter Haven Rd.
