SALVO -- Bernard John Salvo, 71, former Raton resident, passed away on March 2, 2007. He was born August 10, 1935, in Dawson, NM, son of Domenic and Maddalena Merlino Salvo. Bernard served 2 years in the US Army and then received a BA Degree in English/Speech from NM Highlands University. He was an educator in NM and Calif. and then taught English at the University of Kabul in Afganistan as a Peace Corps volunteer. Bernard worked as a project coordinator for the US State Department in the Agency for International Development in Viet Nam, Indonesia, Guyana and Washington, DC. In this capacity he was able to assist people of those countries utilize their resources. He was a giving and loving person who loved his family and friends, as well as the many people of different cultures who became great friends to him. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Domenic Salvo Jr. and John Salvo; one sister, Lin Staples; one sister-in-law, Eleanor Salvo; one brother-in-law, Alfred Farquer; and two nephews. He is survived by brother, Sam Salvo of Santa Fe; two sisters, Dolores Farquer of Albuquerque and Anna (Steve) Weybrew of Raton; one sister-in-law, Ann Salvo of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation has taken place and a memorial will be held on April 14, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in Raton at the Yaksich/Long Funeral Home.
