ALLEN -- ERNEST R. Lt. Col. 1 (retired) Ernest R. Allen, born August 27, 1917, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at the VA Hospital. He was born to Ernest B. Allen and Elizabeth W. Allen. He joined the service in 1944 because he felt the need to serve his country like his brother who was in the Battle of the Bulge. Ernest belonged to the National Sky Patrol, he skied the Sandia Mountains when they were called La Madera. He also belonged to the Air Force Swimming Team and played golf and tennis. Ernest was a member of the Rock Hound Club and the R.V. Club. He enjoyed life to the fullest. Ernest retired after 26-and-a-half years of service. He met and married a southern lady named Iris V. Scott and had four children. Ernest was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Allen on July 4, 2006. He is survived by his children, Ronald Allen and wife, Lynn Allen, Cynthia Barns and husband, Charles Barnes, and Scott Allen and wife, Karen Allen; many grandchildren, including two adopted grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Monday, April 9, 2007, 12:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel.
