NASH -- Grover Elwin Nash, 85, a thirty-four resident of Rio Rancho, died Saturday, March 10, 2007. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaretha, of 46 years; twin sons, David and James, by a previous marriage; and stepsons, Michael and Daniel. He was born in Canton, OH, on April 27, 1921. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Ohio State University in 1942 and a Master of Arts Degree from Georgetown University in 1961. He entered the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1942 and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1964. He earned five battle stars and two Bronze Star medals while serving as an Artilleryman in General Patton's Third Army in Europe during World War II. He was a member of the faculty at the University of Maryland from 1965 to 1972 before moving to Rio Rancho in 1972. In Rio Rancho, he served two years, 1976 and 1977, as President of the Home Owners Association; chaired two committees, in 1974 and 1975, that studied the question of incorporation of Rio Rancho in 1980. He was a member of the City Council from 1981 to 1987 and Mayor from 1987 to 1990. He was a member of the Rio Rancho Golf and Country Club from 1972 to 2003 and an enthusiastic golfer. He served as President of the Men's Golf Association at the club in 1975 and 1980. He also served for many years as a committee-man of the United States Golf Association, a Director of the Sun Country Amateur Golf Association, and a Trustee of the Pacific Coast Golf Association.
