SMITH -- Katherine S. Smith, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, peacefully passed away on March 4, 2007. She was born on November 20, 1919 to William and Virginia Sample in rural Alabama. Katherine was a devoted Christian, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. As a young woman, she was an excellent student and excelled in English and Drama. In 1944 she married Lawrence B. Smith and moved to Albuquerque in 1952. Katherine was very active at her church, Ridgecrest Christian, and very much enjoyed her involvement with the Women's Circle; other interests included playing bridge and investing. Katherine is survived by her two daughters; Susan Beckmann and Linda Switzer and son-in-law, Steven Switzer. She had five grandchildren, Kristin Ericson and husband, Kevin, Matt Beckmann, Jill Beckmann, Brian Switzer and Meredith Switzer. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Alabama and Florida. Katherine is preceded in death by her husband Lawrence B. Smith. Her caring attitude and great sense of humor will be missed by her family and many friends. A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 9, 2007 at 11:00 a.m., French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel.
