BOWERS -- Lorraine M. Bowers, age 93 and a resident of Albuquerque for 44 years, died on Tuesday December 26, 2006 following an illness. Mrs. Bowers is survived by her son, Paul R. Bowers and wife, Esther of Georgia; two sisters, Mary Mullholland of California, and Anne Tomaso of New York; one brother, Joe Dubiel of Illinois; two grandchildren, Clarence and Donald Bowers; and three great-grandchildren. Lorraine was very active in the Officers Wives Club, Civil Engineers Wives Club, and Navy Relief Sewing, where she sewed layettes for needy service families. She was a member of the Naval Hospital Officers Wives Club, Elizabeth Manor Golf and Country Club, Ladies Golf Association. Mrs. Bowers received the Woman of the Year Award from the Naval Hospital Officers Wives Club in May 1962. She was presented an inscribed sterling bowl in recognition of her versatile accomplishments as a member of the N. O. W. Club. She received her 600 hour pin for Naval Relief Volunteer work in Portsmouth, VA where she resided for 5 1/2 years. She was a golfer, bowler, gardener and she excelled at sewing. Her art work won wide acclaim all thought she kept it more as a hobby. She also did work in ceramics, carving, and clay modeling as well as painting. Mrs. Bowers was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, the D.A.V. and V.F.W. Aux., and the Woman's Guild at Our Lady of Fatima. A Viewing and visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima with Burial to follow in the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
