RICHARDSON -- Joe A. Richardson, 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1999, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2006 in Albuquerque. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Betty Richardson of the family home; and son, Bobby E. Richardson of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas and Della Richardson and two brothers, Kenneth and Earl. Mr. Richardson was born July 17, 1923 in Dexter, NM. He attended elementary school in Hagerman, NM and graduated from Hagerman High School in 1941. After high school graduation, he attended New Mexico University before serving with 99th Infantry and the ASTP (Army Specialized Training Program) during World War II. Upon separation from the military, he had received the following military medals; two Purple Hearts, POW medal, three Bronze Star Medals with Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Combat Infantryman Badge, Belgian Fourragers medal, Honorable Service medal, and World War II Victory medal. After World War II, he continued his studies at New Mexico State University where he earned a BA Degree and MA Degree in Agricultural and Extension Education. In 1948, Joe began his teaching tenure at Hatch Valley High School Vocational Agricultural and a FFA instructor. After 20 years of his teaching tenure at Hatch Valley High School, he became a supervisor of Agricultural Education for the New Mexico State Department of Education in 1967. From 1969, until his retirement in 1984, he was director and associate professor of the Agricultural Institute at New Mexico State University. He was an active member of St. Stephens United Methodist Church, Disabled American Veterans, and New Mexico State FFA organizations. Joe was an avid fisherman and big game hunter. Services will be held Friday, December 22, 2006, 10:00 a.m., at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE, with full Military Honors and Pastor Kenneth Henderson of Glorieta, NM, a longtime friend, officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Everett Brawley, Gary Cunningham, Dickie Ogaz, Jim Morrison, Jerry Franzoy, and Ben Molina. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Thursday, December 21, 2006, 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
