SMITH-MITCHELL -- Shirley J. Smith-Mitchell, age 78, of Albuquerque, sadly departed this earth in Albuquerque on Monday, December 11, 2006. She is survived by her husband, James Mitchell; her children, Robert Smith and wife, Julie and Susan Smith and fiance, Colby Ruder; grandchildren, Jennifer Gardner, Rashele Hoffman, Sharea Hoffman; great-granddaughter, Stormy Gardner; stepdaughter, Debra Mitchell, step-mother, Garnet Hettrick; and sisters, Donna Parker and Beverly Ladig and husband, Charles; as well as many nieces and nephews. Shirley was born in Hubbard, OH and worked for the Treasury Department in Washington, DC before moving to New Mexico in the late 1950s. She continued working at Sandia National Labs before retiring from Presbyterian Hospital as executive secretary in the accounting department. She was a devoted member and volunteer at St. Paul's United Methodist Church for more than 40 years and a volunteer at the church for almost two decades. Shirley was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister and a friend to many people that knew her. She enjoyed spending time in her garden and traveling to visit her family. Services will be held Thursday, December 14, 2006, 11:00 a.m., at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 9500 Constitution, NE. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Wednesday, December 13, 2006, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
