MARTIN -- Commander Frank P. Martin (US Navy, Retired) was called home to rest with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, November 19, 2006, while surrounded by his family. He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1956, and then went into the US Navy as an officer. Lt. J.G. Frank Martin trained as a helicopter pilot and flew with HS FIVE and VX-1 in Key West FLA before receiving his Masters degree from the Naval Post Graduate School. He spent three years in the Office of Naval Research in Washington DC. He was involved in the SALT talks for arms reduction, and also worked for the DOE in Washington DC. Frank retired from the Navy and government work in the late 1970's and went to work for the Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM. He was involved in Arms Verification work in the Soviet Union and was instrumental in improving Physical Protection of Nuclear facilities and Materials training in the European theater in the 1980's. Frank retired from the labs in the late 1990's and has spent his final years in the Albuquerque area. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elliott Martin and Gwendolyn Martin. Frank is survived by his loving wife, Betty H. Martin; sister, Meredith Potterfield; sons, Frank Martin, Jr., Elliott Martin and Alan Martin; daughters-in-law, Sonia Gomez, Jane Thompson, and Shiela Martin; grandchildren, Cpl. Valerian Gomez, Elija Martin, and Alexia Martin; great grandchildren, Eileen Gomez and Natalie Gomez. With respect to Frank's wishes, cremation will take place and private services will be held.
