WILLIAMS -- Karla Jeanette Williams April 5, 1962 - September 16, 2006 Karla Jeanette Williams passed on to a better place on September 16, 2006 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. An Albuquerque native, Karla graduated from Highland High School and the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology. Karla's vocations were many, having served in food service, product sales and marketing, and most recently as a designer of accessories in her "Denim Dun Over" apparel business. Karla is survived by her mother, Sue Williams; her father, Truman Williams and wife, Alice, all of Albuquerque; her aunt, Sidney Jeanette Williams; and uncle, Ed Williams and wife, Gee Gee of California; aunt, Beatrice Evans of Colorado; step-sisters and -brothers: Kristie Walters and husband, Ken, Tom Newcomm, Nancy Newcomm, all of New Mexico, and Danny Newcomm and wife, Lisa of Florida. She is also survived by numerous distant aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins related directly or by marriage; and her special beloved dog, Tulip. A cadre of devoted friends from all over the country have expressed their love and sense of loss. Karla was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Almar Eli and Edith Evans; paternal grandparents, Ben Williams and Edith Williams Dunn and husband, Bill Dunn, all of New Mexico. Cremation has taken place and family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Karla's life at her father's house on October 21, 2006 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. The compassionate care of UNM Cancer Center and Lovelace Vista Care are acknowledged. Karla was a strong supporter of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and she championed the fight with fellow patients, caregivers, doctors, nurses, and students. Gifts to this organization would be appreciated by her. Karla's heroic efforts and relentless bravery in her struggle were an inspiration to all who came in contact with her and she served as a beacon to which the Earth sings, for she truly was the wind beneath our wings.
