MARTINEZ -- Major Manuel A."Marty" Martinez,U.S.A. (Ret.), 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1977, died Friday, August 11, 2006. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Martha Martinez; children, George A. Martinez and wife, Millie of Phoenix, AZ and Michelle "Shellie" Le and husband, Quan of Pinellas Park, FL; seven grandchildren, Megan Chandler and husband, David, Tara Rodgers, Danielle Lindblad and husband, Sgt. Paul James, George A. Martinez, II, Scott Rodgers and wife, Brandi, Virginia Martinez, and Peter Manuel Manning Martinez; three great grandchildren, Abigail Marie Martinez, Scott Joseph Rodgers, and Samuel James Lindblad; three brothers, Ernesto Martinez of Las Cruces, NM, Jacobo Martinez and wife, Mary of Santa Fe, NM and Marcelino Martinez and wife, Bonnie of Ft. Worth, TX; sister, Helen Feind and husband, Lloyd of Santa Fe, NM; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Marty was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Emilia Martinez; three brothers, Luz, Jose, and Miguel Martinez; and sister, Euservia Lucero. He was born on September 1, 1917 in Grenville, NM and graduated from high school in Grenville. Marty worked in the CC Camps during the depression until entering the United States Army in 1940. He retired from the Army in 1960 at Navajo Ordnance Depot in Flagstaff, AZ with the rank of Major. Marty attended and graduated from Northern Arizona University in 1964 with a BS in Accounting. He worked in Civil Service from 1968 to 1977 where he retired for a second time. At that time he and Martha moved to Albuquerque. Marty loved gardening, playing bridge and spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, and friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at 12:00 p.m. Ennichment of cremated remains will follow at 2:30 p.m. Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM.
