HOLLOWAY -- Kenneth William Holloway, 76, born August 18, 1929, in Alix, AR, peacefully passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2006. He was the band director at Gallup High School and Gallup Middle Schools from 1967 to 1992. After retirement, he served on the Gallup-McKinley County School Board for eight years. Holloway graduated with a Masters Degree in Music Education from Eastern New Mexico University. He previously taught music in Hollis, Oklahoma from 1962-1963, and Tucumcari, NM from 1963-1967. In his early career, he played music professionally with jazz, western and big bands. He loved baseball, Duke Blue Devils basketball team and the Dallas Cowboys. He was inducted into the New Mexico Music Educators Hall of Fame in 1993 and into the Texas Western Swing Music Hall of Fame in 2005. He served in the army in Korea from 1952 to 1954. He was in the 25th Division Army Band but also served on the front lines. In 1999, the new Gallup High School auditorium was named in his honor. He was a member of the Conchas Dam VFW and the Gallup Elks Lodge. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pat; two sons, Marco of Albuquerque, and Max of Gallup; and one daughter, Terri Currier of Aliso Viejo, CA; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Cletus of Ft. Smith, AR, and Gene of Lincoln, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Cleo Holloway; and brother, Thomas Holloway, all of Ft. Smith, AR. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: The Ken Holloway Music Education Scholarship Fund, c/o Gallup Rotary Club, P.O. Box 571, Gallup, NM 87305. Services will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2006, at the First Baptist Church, 2112 College Drive, Gallup, at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Jay McCollum will officiate. Reception at the church will follow Services.
