LEDER -- Lauren Chilton Leder, 57, a resident of Tijeras, NM for 26 years, died Saturday, August 5, 2006 after an eight year bout of fighting multiple sclerosis and cancer. She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Charles Leder; sons, Jonathan and Christopher Leder of Tijeras; parents, Ralph and Lois Chilton of Tijeras; sister, Debra Lanier and husband, David of Chicago, IL; nephew, Nathan Lanier of West Hollywood, CA; nieces, Nicole and Denise Lanier of Chicago; and other relatives and friends. Lauren was born in Moberly, Missouri on May 16, 1949. She received her BA from Centenary College in Shreveport, LA and her Masters Degree in Music Education from North Texas State University in Denton, TX. Lauren was a music educator for 25 years for Albuquerque Public Schools, of which the last 16 she was remembered in the music community as Choral Director at El Dorado High School. Early in Lauren's music career she sang in the Albuquerque Opera Chorus and served as Choir Director for area churches. Her choirs won numerous awards in city and state competitions. Her show choir troupe, Gold Rush, won the annual statewide Show Fest competition nine times during her 16 years at El Dorado including two three-peats during the 90s. Lauren retired from APS in the spring of 1999 after her Gold Rush Show Choir took yet another first place award at Show Fest. During retirement, she traveled extensively with her family. In 2003 her music education peers established the Lauren Leder Scholarship Fund, awarded annually to a student for outstanding contributions to community and choral music. She was a member of Forest Meadow Baptist Church in Tijeras. Lauren was a devoted wife, loving mother, daughter and sister and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of her life will take place at Forest Meadow Baptist Church, intersection of New Mexico Hwy 217 and Lovato Rd. in Tijeras, NM on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at 5:30 p.m. with Pastor Tom Lambert officiating.
