LYNCH -- Alma Lucile Hughes Lynch died peacefully in Belen, NM, on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at the age of 92. Alma was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, D. M. "Spud" Lynch; her sisters, Mildred Myers, Marie Sanderson and husband, Ray; brother, Thomas C. Hughes and wife, Trudy Davis; and daughter-in-law, Sydni Waddle Lynch. She is survived by her son, Edward Lynch and wife, Jeanne Lynch of Peralta; daughter, Patricia Waltner and husband, Jim of Los Chavez; grandchildren, Jill Fisher and husband, Mark of San Diego, CA, Gale Lynch of Rochester, NY, Scott Wiater and wife, Erin of Elk Ridge, MD, and Jennifer Wiater and husband, Shawn Healy of Galena, IL; and four great-grandchildren, Justin Wiater, Kendall and Logan Fisher, and Spencer Lynch Koehl. Alma was born in Dublin, TX, on February 12, 1914, to Fred and Celia Tatum Hughes. She moved to Belen at the age of five when Fred began his career working on the Santa Fe Railroad. Alma graduated from Belen High School, class of 1933, and married her husband, Spud, in Clovis, NM, on March 1, 1940. She became a mother and a homemaker living in Clovis, Tucumcari, Santa Fe and Albuquerque before she and Spud retired to Belen in 1980. Alma was active in the Presbyterian Church throughout her life, serving as a deacon, a volunteer at the Storehouse, and in various other capacities. Like her mother before her, Alma was a member of the Pythian Sisters and the Belen Sewing Club. She enjoyed traveling and always looked forward to the weekly dinners and celebrations with her special friends. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Belen, 85 Manzano Expressway, followed by a celebration of her life at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, 6 Casitas Del Rio, Belen, NM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alma's memory to the building fund of the First Presbyterian Church of Belen, 85 Manzano Expressway, Belen, NM, 87002.
