HARRIS -- Lewis "Lew" Saul Harris, 73, battled cancer for almost two years. On Thursday, March 16, 2006, he passed away in the arms of Abby, his devoted and loving wife of 50 years. Lew was born April 3, 1932, in Malden, MA. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country proudly. Lew was the youngest of four children and is survived by his wife, Abby and his sister, Eunice Bruton, having been preceded in death by his sisters, Katherine McMahon and Annette Shames. He is also survived by his three loving sons: David Harris and wife, Lisa of Memphis, Josh Harris and wife, Denise of Corrales, and Michael Harris and wife, Ally of St. Louis; along with eight grandchildren and one great-grandson. Lew was the first in his family to go to college, attending Tufts University and obtaining a law degree from Boston University. In 2002, he retired from the National Labor Relations Board after 42 years of service as a trial attorney. He also served two terms as National President of the NLRB Union. After retirement, Lew was appointed by Governor Richardson to the New Mexico Public Employee Labor Relations Board. He also volunteered his time assisting the elderly with their tax returns and working in the office at Congregation B'nai Israel. Most recently, he volunteered as a docent for the Albuquerque Museum, giving Old Town tours and lectures. Lew was a voracious reader and a phenomenal legal writer. His joys in life included his family, tennis, travel, opera, history, the Dukes, the Red Sox, and convertibles. Services will be held Sunday, 11:00 a.m., at Congregation B'nai Israel, 4401 Indian School Rd. NE. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park.
